Brave New World - Chapter 11 - Medical Field

"....felt after peyotl, as though you'd done something so shamefully antisocial that you could never hold up your head again. Soma played none of these unpleasant tricks" (Huxley 156).

In defending the statement, Science and Technology will help benefit humanity in the future, with this certain drug, this is very relevant and helpful to humanity in the future. In this passage, it describes how Linda is back to the civilization of the Brave New World, and they bring back the fact that she has been using the substance called Peyotl, which helps you forget about reality and make you feel like a happier person but has a shameful, as it was described above, and a very unhealthy side effect after consuming this substance. Linda is now very intrigued about getting back on with a healthier and better substance called, Soma. This drug has the same detail as peyotl but it does not come with the unhealthy and shameful side effect afterwards. This is very helpful for humanity in the future because in the medical field, people have to take a certain substances that will make them feel num and have to be unconscious because of the amount of pain the surgery will affect on someone's body. This will benefit them crucially because a lot of people do not want to feel unhealthy and horrible after the surgery. Overall, having a drug like soma is a great medical advancement to the people who work in the medical field and also the patients so they won't have to endure so much more pain.
